Healing Blockers

Writer: Kimberly SKimberly S

Did you know that there are hinderances to us receiving our healing? They can go undetected very easily actually, but once the light has been shed on these areas, Healing usually isn't too far behind. Let's explore the most common healing blockers together and get you Healed, Honey!

1. Unforgiveness

I've listed this one first because it's the most common and the one that receives the most pushback. If you look at it from the lens of an adversary perspective, it's a nasty attack. A whole complete SETUP. Our adversary knows us well and he knows what can essentially take us out at our knees. The most vicious attacks can come when we're the most innocent and vulnerable in our childhood years. Now that's straight up evil to attack children but that's what he does. Insert "unforgivable sin" into the timeline of our life, watch us grow up into adults struggling to understand something so utterly illogical that we never had time to process let alone have anyone be able to explain to us and use it to have us harbor hurt in our hearts toward the offender for as long as we choose to hold onto it. Our enemy knows the Bible better than most christians, and knowing that God can't go against His own word when He says, in Matthew 6:15 "If you do not forgive others their sins, Your Father will not forgive your sins" He devises the most evil plans against our lives in hope that it stunts us and our growth for life. When we chose to not forgive, we actually keep ourselves in a holding pattern until we surrender. It's no easy task to forgive what seems unforgivable and those who've hurt us, betrayed us and sometimes even tried to take our lives from us, but here is where we have to trust God when He says, in Romans 12:19 "vengeance is mine, I WILL repay." The beginning part of that verse says to leave room for Gods wrath. Look at it as there can't be room for both your wrath AND God's, so take a backseat and allow Him to fight for you. Hard, I know! So hard! Especially when you're used to fighting for yourself your whole life. I think part of accepting this verse is realizing just how highly God thinks of you to know that He will NOT let your enemies "get away" with what they did to you. Forgiving releases us from the extremely heavy burden we end up carrying when we take matter into our own hands. I heard it said once that "God hits harder" and it was the exact word I needed at the time to finally let go of the offense I was determined to hold onto. I didn't want to be the reason God delayed His vengeance on my offender, so I chose to let it go and I'm encouraging you to do the same. If you've ever uttered the words, "I will NEVER FORGIVE...... for what they did" then this word is for you. What was done to you was a deliberate attack to keep you from intimacy with the Healer Himself, don't let the enemy win in your life twice.

2. Unrepentant Heart/Unconfessed Sin

For this one, we're gonna go straight to Psalm 139:23-24 where David asks the Lord to search him and see if there is any offensive way in him. This is one of what I like to call a "dangerous prayer". But definitely one God will answer immediately. Whether we want to admit it or not, some of our pain is self inflicted by walking in straight up disobedience. God gave us plenty of warning about that person or situation, but we went on to do business with them anyway. Their true character was revealed and we walked away emotionally limping because of our own rebellion. How many times has this happened? You can place any scenario in here, we all know which sin in our lives has us in a chokehold, and if we don't its time to ask God to reveal it to us, not for shameful or condemning reasons but simply to get us back into proper alignment of His will. Hey, we're human and He knows our hearts are prone to wander like the old hymns say, but it would do us good to do a little heart inventory check. If it's been a while since we've sat and been honest with ourselves then maybe you're due for a BIG inventory check. I wanna also point out that a remorseful heart is very different than a repentant heart. The bible says in Acts 3:19 to, "Repent then TURN" Meaning about face, go in the opposite direction. Remorse just means you feel bad about what you did, but its usually not bad enough to make us change our ways. When that's the case we just wait out the bad feelings or distract and numb our inability to sit with those bad feelings and then we find ourselves right back in the same pattern and doing said sin all over again and the nasty cycle continues. May we come to a place of true repentance and renounce what our former un-renewed minds had us do, lets turn from our ways and do better. Healing won't be far behind.

3. Unbelief

This one right here??? Got me! I've read all the miracles in the Bible about healing everything from 12yr hemorrhaging to blind eyes and deaf ears and even raising corpses from the dead. I truly believe He did ALL those things. Where I got stumped though, was believing He would do it for me. I put Him in such a box because of how I viewed myself and MY lack of unworthiness and I based His ability to heal me on ME and my shortcomings. If that ain't completely backwards! HONEYS please understand that God's willingness and ability to heal you has EVERYTHING to do with Him and how good He is and has absolutely NOTHING to do with how good we are or aren't. Because compared to Jesus, none of us are that good anyway. We may think we are, but newsflash, we're not. How much we serve or don't serve, how much we fast or don't fast doesn't matter as much as you think it does. Is He pleased with genuine sacrifice? Yes, but your healing isn't dependent on it as much as you are walking in obedience. Yes we can do these things as acts of faith but please don't think for one second that you have to earn your healing. The only thing you need to do is believe with ALL your heart and soul that He can and He will. How many occurrences in the Bible does He say, "because of your faith you are made well"?? It's quite a few times. In Matthew 13:58 Jesus was in His own hometown and it says "He left doing only few miracles" why? because of their lack of faith. The people didn't believe! How sad to have the miracle worker in your midst and not even able to take advantage of the amazing opportunity because of a lack of faith. This still happens today, but lets not allow that be us. Let's choose to believe Him at His word.

So many of us hold the key to unlock our own healing. You do have to want your healing bad enough & take an active role if you really want to see it show up in your life.
